Canada's national bird is the Common Loon. (see pic to left) Birding in Canada is much more than a hobby. Canada's Important Bird Areas Birding program is a science-based initiative to identify, conserve and monitor a network of sites that provide essential habitat for Canada's bird populations. . The Canadian IBA On-Line Directory provides summary information for each of Canada's 597 Important Bird Areas. The directory can be queried to identify bird populations, habitat types, landuse activities, and the conservation status of Important Bird Areas across Canada.
